On Land’s Edge

Save the dates!!

Friday 25th to Sunday 27th
September 2026

This year’s festival is set to be our best yet. As well as our regular sessions across the weekend, we also have a host of events planned to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the filming of Moby Dick, right here in Fishguard (Lower Town).

With the help of a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we will be weaving in a range of Moby Dick themed events and capturing and preserving the stories and memories from 1956 when ‘Tinseltown’ came to Lower Town.

We are currently firming up our full programme of events and you can see our draft programme below (more details being added all the time).

Pre-festival Events

There’s so much on offer for this year’s festival, so we are spreading it out and running some pre-festival events.

If our lantern parade hits the spot for you, why not sign up for one our lantern making sessions and join the parade?

It’s Already in Progress!

Collecting Our Community Heritage

An important part of this year’s festival is our work to research and collate some of the many stories and memories from the period in 1956 when Lower Town became one of the settings for the filming of Moby Dick. Our festival core group journalistic supremo, Mike Lewis, is out and about, talking to our community and delving into the distant memories that still remain. We are working with Hanes Abergwaun and Ein Hanes to capture and preserve those memories, our town’s heritage, for generations to come.

Ein Hanes Talk – ‘Whale Conservation’ (Speaker: Sea Trust Wales’ Cliff Benson)

Our festival is an opportunity to work with other community organisations and further develop our relationships with existing ones. We are delighted to be collaborating with Ein Hanes and Sea Trust Wales this year to bring Sea Trust Wales’ Cliff Benson back to our stage with his presentation on Whale Conservation.

Main Festival Weekend

Friday September 25th

Festival Lantern Parade

This year we have partnered with Small World Theatre to help us bring Moby alive! The team at Small Word are constructing a large scale Moby Dick lantern that will lead the parade through the town and open our festival weekend.

Theatre at TG

Live theatre is a consistent theme for our festival and this year is no exception. We will be bringing another fantastic theatrical performance to the stage for festival goers to enjoy.

Live at Ffwrn

As always, we will have our live set at Ffwrn, bringing another big name on the music scene to Fishguard to perform in the gorgeous setting that is Ffwrn.

Saturday September 26th

Festival Sea Swim – ‘Off’ Land’s Edge

Our hardy sea swimmers will once again be dipping their weather-hardened toes (and bodies) into the water at the Parrog. All welcome, it’s a blast!

Screening of ‘Moby Dick’

Our celebration of the anniversary would not be complete without a screening of the original 1956 film starring Gregory Peck. Join us at TG as we reminisce and soak up this classic film in cosy comfort of Theatr Gwaun.

Headline Live Gig at TG

Live music is such an important part of our festival offer and our Saturday Night gig is our opportunity to bring headline performers to our stage – keep an eye on our evolving programme for more details soon.

Sunday September 27th

Literature Sunday

Another of the central pillars of our festival returns for 2026. Our Literature Sunday sessions this year will include two distinguished authors presenting readings from their work followed by a Q & A and culminating in a post discussion lunch.

Our Sunday Children’s Event

Our festival is an inclusive weekend and there’s something for everyone. We are still finalising the offer for our younger festival goers so keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.

Simffoni Mara Evening – ‘Watery Part of the World’

It’s the cultural highlight of the festival and the perfect way to bring our festival to a close. Join us on the Sunday for an evening of live music, photography and spoken word, curated by our Artistic Director, David Pepper.
